Ivan, a tropical storm on Sunday morning, 5 September, developed rapidly into a powerful category 3 hurricane by Sunday afternoon. On Monday, 6 September, Hurricane Ivan, with winds of 125 mph, continues to gain strength. This morning, Ivan is east-south east of Barbados, moving steadily west. Hurricane warnings and watches are in place for Barbados, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada and Martinique.

Regional Workshop/Policy Dialogue On A Model National Hazard Mitigation Policy For The Caribbean

The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Response Agency (CDERA) and the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) co-hosted a Regional Workshop/Policy Dialogue on a Model National Hazard Mitigation Policy for the Caribbean on January 13 and 14, 2003, at the Coyaba Beach Resort, Grenada. This workshop reviewed a draft Model National Hazard Mitigation Policy commissioned by CDERA under the Caribbean Hazard Mitigation Capacity Building Programme (CHAMP) in collaboration with the CDB, through its Disaster Mitigation Facility for the Caribbean (DMFC). CHAMP is funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), executed by the Organization of American States (OAS) and implemented by CDERA. The DMFC is financed by the United States Agency for International Development – Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (USAID/OFDA) and CDB.
